Getting Started
Importing your customers and products from a spreadsheet
Already have a customer list or product catalog in Excel? Import it in bulk — with a preview before anything is created — instead of retyping everything by hand.
Before you start
Switching from a notebook, Excel sheet, or another piece of software almost always means one thing stands between you and actually using the new one: retyping every customer and every product by hand. WatCoreLite's CSV import is built specifically to remove that step.
Start from the template, not a blank sheet
On the Customers or Products & Services page, click Download CSV template first. It gives you a real spreadsheet with the exact column headers WatCoreLite expects, plus one filled-in example row so you can see the format at a glance — no guessing at column names.
Fill it in with your own data
For customers: Name and Phone are the only required columns — Email, Address, GSTIN, Notes, and Credit Limit are all optional. For products: Name and Price are required — Code, Type (product or service), Category, Brand, Model Number, Unit, Opening Stock, Low Stock Threshold, HSN Code, Tax %, and Notes are all optional. A Category or Brand name that doesn't exist yet gets created automatically — you don't need to set those up first.
Nothing happens until you confirm it
Click Import CSV and pick your finished file. WatCoreLite reads it and shows you a preview first — exactly how many rows are ready to import, and precisely which ones (if any) will be skipped and why, e.g. a row missing a required name. Only once you click Import on that preview screen does anything actually get created.
Have extra columns? They become custom fields
For customers specifically, any column beyond the standard ones isn't ignored — the column header becomes a custom field's label, and the cell becomes its value. So if your spreadsheet already tracks something like "GST Exemption" or "Preferred Delivery Day", just leave those columns in — they'll land as real custom fields on each imported customer, no extra setup needed. See Adding custom fields to a customer or supplier for more on that.
